Improving your healthcare

Group Video Call Professional

Having access to the right care at the right time is important for people living with Crohn’s or Colitis. This is because the conditions can be unpredictable and get worse if not treated quickly. They are also complex affecting many parts of the body and mind.

Find out about all our work to ensure that people with Crohn’s and Colitis have access to safe, consistent, high-quality, personalised care, whatever their age and wherever they live in the UK and how you can get involved.

Group Video Call Professional

We are working towards making IBD Standards a reality. The IBD Standards set out what high-quality care should look like, from first symptoms to diagnosistreatment and ongoing care.  These underpin our work to improve healthcare for everyone living with Crohn’s or Colitis.

IBD UK

The IBD Standards were developed by IBD UK, an alliance of professional associations, royal colleges, and patient organisations. We chair IBD UK and ensure that the needs of people living with Crohn’s and Colitis are at the centre of the work of this coalition.

The IBD UK report Crohn’s and Colitis Care in the UK: The Hidden Cost and a Vision for Change looked at the experiences of over 10,000 people with Crohn’s and Colitis and 72% of IBD services across the UK and revealed that care needs to be improved.

How we are working to improve your care

Spotlight on Homecare medicines services

Homecare medicine delivery services help you personalise your care and take control of your treatment plan. However, there are deep, systemic and long-standing failures in these services, which put your care at risk and adds pressure on an already stretched IBD workforce.

Get involved

We believe it’s fundamental that people with Crohn’s and Colitis are involved in the decisions about how healthcare is delivered - no project or service will be as good as it could be without the input of people affected by the conditions.
