"It's always great to share these experiences and if that helps even just one person, then that's a job well done"

I joined my Local Network just before lockdown in 2020 so never got to attend the in-person events in a volunteer context. This was a great opportunity to help keep the Crohn's & Colitis UK events going (albeit virtually) and to extend the reach to people who maybe couldn't attend the normal events in person. Plus I think it's really important that those who are newly diagnosed during lockdown to have access to Crohn's & Colitis UK events for guidance & support given how difficult diagnosis is even in a non-pandemic situation.

I enjoy facilitating the events because you get to meet and talk to a range of different people, all with varying
experiences and journeys of living with Crohn's or Colitis or knowing someone who has conditions.

It's a great way to help out plus you get to meet volunteers from other networks as host or co-host that you normally wouldn't do for local networking. Hearing a wide range of experiences from a range of people helps me learn about the condition more broadly and also get guidance about how I could better manage my own condition.

Want to volunteer with us?

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, develop new skills and make a difference to everyone affected by Crohn's and Colitis.
