Jake - Information Feedback Volunteer

"I wanted to give something back by volunteering"

Jake has been volunteering for Crohn's & Colitis UK in a number of ways since 2015 and is a currently on the Information Feedback Volunteer reviewing patient information.

I decided to get involved as a volunteer at Crohn's and Colitis UK for a couple of reasons. I have Crohn's Disease and was diagnosed at the age of 13. This has since caused me to have many flare ups, to take a variety of medication, to be on a number of diets and to have surgery. My family, friends and the community have done an amazing job supporting me, so I wanted to give something back by volunteering.

I studied English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Hertfordshire, and have a blog where I publish articles raising awareness for Crohn's and Colitis. So I was drawn to the writing role that the Information Feedback Volunteer role offers.

If someone with Crohn's or Colitis benefits from reading an information leaflet that I have helped to develop then that makes it all worthwhile.

If you are thinking about volunteering with Crohn's & Colitis UK, go for it! If by helping, you can make a positive difference to someone else's experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, then it is certainly worth it.
