Footballer Russell Martin to open Run the Night event

Professional football player and coach, Russell Martin will open our Run the Night event on Thursday 17 October.

We glow together

League One Milton Keynes Dons defender Russell Martin is supporting the charity's unique Run the Night event; a 10km race which takes runners along a route infused with lights and music, past iconic London landmarks such as Canary Wharf, Cutty Sark and The O2.

Russell was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis shortly after he joined Norwich Football club in 2010 and has supported Crohn’s & Colitis UK as an ambassador throughout his football career. He has been keen to support the charity in raising awareness of Crohn's Disease and Colitis, and support others who are in a similar situation.

Even if I can help one person by not being embarrassed or ashamed of my IBD – it is something that I’ve had and loads of people have it worse than me.

I am thrilled to be opening this year’s Run the Night. The charity means a lot to me and they do such incredible work so its great to be part of one of the fun activities that go towards raising vital funds it needs to do their work but also help raise awareness of these terrible conditions. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of people there.

Professional footballer, living with Colitis

Run the Night is a 10km race with a difference. Participants receive a fluorescent technical top, glowsticks, race number with chip timing and a free drink at the finishing club venue.

During the race, runners glow through illuminate zones across the London Docklands, before arriving at Studio 338 for a free celebratory drink at our finish venue.

Entry is £30 and and runners receive dedicated fundraising support and be awarded a unique medal when completing the challenge.
