Last month we responded to the Welsh Parliament’s Health and Social Care Committee’s inquiry, Supporting people with chronic conditions. This was an area the committee identified as a priority at the start of this parliament, giving us the opportunity to call for better care for Crohn’s and Colitis. The first stage of the inquiry focused on access to essential services and ongoing treatment, support for self-management, mental health, and the impact of the pandemic.
Our response focused on the need to meet the IBD Standards, so that your care is proactive, preventative and personalised. Unfortunately, IBD care in Wales remains understaffed and under-resourced, with no service meeting the IBD Standards.
We also reiterated the need for greater public awareness of Crohn’s and Colitis and awareness of symptoms, the importance of timely access to endoscopy, and how a diagnostic pathway can help to reduce waiting times and lead to earlier diagnoses.

We need your help.
This is only the first stage of the inquiry, with further opportunities to respond expected later this year. By sharing your story you can help us to campaign for better services that benefit you.
