Yuyu bottle

Georgina x YUYU x Crohn's & Colitis UK

If you haven't heard of YUYU bottles, they are extra-long hot water bottles that you can tie around yourself. Last month we launched our collaboration with Georgina Aurelia and YUYU to create a limited edition YUYU bottle.

You may recognise Georgina from the second series of The Circle and she actually took her own YUYU bottle with her while The Circle was being filmed. Georgina immediately joined our cause and was very keen to support us, so she got in touch late last year with the idea of collaborating on a bespoke Crohn’s & Colitis UK YUYU Bottle.

I wanted to design something that matters, so I hope this hot water bottle gives comfort and security during people’s hard days. Plus, 10% of sales goes to Crohn’s & Colitis UK!

Georgina
Living with Crohn's

Hey! I’m Georgina and I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2018 when I was just turning 20. Before my diagnosis I was having on and off symptoms that were getting worse and worse over 3 years, chronic fatigue, blood in my poop, agonising tummy pain, hair loss, and joint swelling. I was diagnosed with acid reflux, pernicious anaemia, even bowel cancer! Even so I knew they still hadn’t got it right.

I was worrying about my health constantly which obviously made me even more ill. In the January of 2019 I was rushed into hospital because I collapsed and remained in there for around 30 days. My health got better then worse then better and then life threatening when I had septicaemia. I was rushed into theatre and woke up with a stoma. I had a stoma for around 6 months and totally fell in love with it. I would match bag covers to outfits and wear it with pride.

I learnt to love and appreciate my body and the strength it had to keep me going.

I then had my ostomy reversed in the June and 3 months later the disease came back. So I’ve been battling it again for the past 3 years. I am on treatment but finally in remission!

Everyday is a battle but I’m able to keep going and stay strong. Last year I decided to approach two groups of people that mean a lot to me personally and my journey; Crohn’s & Colitis UK and YUYU.

YUYU knows how useful people with chronic illness find their bottles and have their own YUYU Pain Warriors blog which has previously featured pieces from people living with Crohn’s and Colitis, as well as many other chronic diseases like Endometriosis, Multiple Sclerosis and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

Our YUYU Bottles have been helpful for many people with Crohn’s or Colitis as people find that the heat helps ease their symptoms. We are proud to be collaborating with Georgina and Crohn's & Colitis UK to bring you this Limited Edition Purple Cotton Waffle YUYU, the international colour of Crohn’s and Colitis. It will raise awareness and support research into the disease. 10% of sales will be donated to the organisation. Along with the warming and cooling effect of the YUYU Bottle, we hope that will be some welcome comfort to all.

Creative marketing manager, YUYU

All YUYU bottles are made with 100% natural, biodegradable rubber and the materials for the covers are REACH Certified (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), so they don’t contain any harmful chemicals or additives. The rubber is ethically sourced from rubber tree plantations in Sri Lanka which are FSC and Fair Rubber certified. The packaging is also all biodegradable which we love!

We are so proud to have worked with Georgina and YUYU to come up with the beautiful design. Thank you to Georgina for choosing to work with us on this collaboration and to YuYu who are donating 10% of the sales to Crohn’s & Colitis UK.
