Development of a Crohn's Anal Fistula - Core Measurement Set (CAF-COMS)

Researchers at St Mark's Hospital are looking for adults with Crohn's Disease and experience of anal fistulas to complete online surveys over the course of 12 weeks. Looking at developing a Crohn's Anal Fistula - Core Measurement Set (CAF - COMS) to help best measure outcomes of different treatment types.

This study by researchers at St Mark's Hospital is looking to develop a way to best measure outcomes of different treatment options for anal fistula.

Clinical trials that test different treatments for this condition often measure results in different ways. This makes it difficult to compare trials and identify which treatment works best. To address this, a Core Outcome Set has already been developed. This is a list of important outcomes to measure in a clinical trial for perianal fistulising Crohn's, and includes quality of life, incontinence and perianal disease activity.

In this study researchers are working to find the best way to measure these outcomes by gathering opinions from people with Crohn's and anal fistulas. This will help make clinical trials easier to compare and improve overall care.

To be eligible to take part you must:

  • be over 18
  • have a Crohn's Disease diagnosis and experience of anal fistula.

Your participation will involve completing two to three short surveys over 12 weeks. You will be asked to review questionnaires (relating to quality of life, incontinence and perianal disease activity) and decide whether they should be used within clinical trials.

By sharing your perspectives, you can influence how clinical trials are designed, ensuring that future studies not only prioritise the outcomes that matter most to you, but also standardise how these outcomes are measured for more accurate and meaningful results.
