We are looking for 5 enthusiastic young adults who want to help shape the work of the charity to meet the needs of all young adults living with Crohn’s and Colitis. You will join a strong, passionate and committed group of people on the Young Adults Advisory Panel (YAAP), which provides strategic advice to the Board of Trustees on issues where a young adult’s voice is required.

The role

  • This volunteer role will be a dynamic role and will involve providing advice on various broad
    programmes of work undertaken by the charity and the development of strategic plans
  • Contributing actively to Panel meetings
  • Using any specific experience or knowledge to help the Panel reach sound decisions

Who we are looking for

  • People aged 18 to 29 years old, who either have Crohn's or Colitis, or are a close relative of
    someone who has Crohn's or Colitis
  • The Panel should reflect our diverse community including ethnicity, socio-economic background, gender and representation from the four nations. Our current panel has a higher number of members who identify as female and are over 25 years old. To ensure a balanced representation, we particularly encourage applications from individuals between 18-24 years old, and people of different genders
  • Ambitious individuals who are committed to the values and strategic aims of Crohn’s & Colitis UK
  • A confident communicator and listener
  • Strong ability to share not only your views but represent other young adults' views in the Crohn’s
    and Colitis community

What we can offer you

  • We want to ensure that you have everything you need to carry out the role successfully and will help
    support through training and supporting individual needs
  • Chance to develop your communication, listening and strategy skills
  • Gain valuable experience in how charities are organised and run
  • Developing new contacts and networks as well as the knowledge that you are making a valuable
    contribution to the work of the charity.

Other information

  • This is a one to two year role
  • Meetings will generally be held virtually, with at least one face to face meeting per year held in our Hatfield office, London or another city which is convenient for panel members
  • There will be a minimum of two meetings per year and a maximum of six. Meetings are usually around 2 hours long. To prepare for meetings panel members will be required to review papers, this should take around 30 minutes per meeting
  • Expenses for travel and any overnight stays will be covered.
