Ruth - Local Network

"You will discover strengths you never knew you had, and will have the opportunity to make a real and positive impact to your local area!"

Ruth, a volunteer for our Northern Ireland Network, was diagnosed in 2003 and has been volunteering with Crohn's & Colitis UK since 2015.

I got involved because I had actually been looking at other opportunities for volunteering with different charities, but decided that it was probably best to support something I have personal knowledge of! I was looking to meet new people and this just seemed perfect.

I have enjoyed adding profiles to our social media, as I feel that this has really impacted and benefitted our network with more likes to the page, more attendance at meetings/events, and more interaction online. It has given us a ‘face’ and made us more personable - it’s been really great to see!

I really like maintaining the Facebook page and am delighted that since taking on this task the likes to the page have doubled.

Local Network Volunteer

My volunteering has promoted our Local Network among people I know who have Crohn's or Colitis but were not previously members. Plus, our hard work means that we now get more interaction on social media and people feel more comfortable attending meetings/events. We have had messages from people praising our teams’ awareness and promotion efforts, which is really nice to hear.

If you're thinking about volunteering, do it! It’s a great experience and you will meet lots of new people and learn more about yourself, you will discover strengths you never knew you had. You will have the opportunity to make a real and positive impact to your local area!

Want to volunteer with us?

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, develop new skills and make a difference to everyone affected by Crohn's and Colitis.
