Next steps

The time has come to submit your business case for review.

Step 8: Making your case

Before you do anything, find out if there is a defined submission process.

If there is, great, follow that. If not, you will have to think about who you get in touch with and how you are going to submit your case to them.

Many trusts will have a business case template for you to use. They are typically complicated and can contain a lot of irrelevant information, but you may still find them a useful starting point. Alternatively, you could use the one we have provided.

Change is a difficult process, particularly in the NHS, so there’s a fair chance that your pitch may be unsuccessful the first time around. Don’t be discouraged by this, but rather plan for it: listen to feedback, gather more evidence, incorporate it into your case and try again.

Questions to ask yourself now:

  • What is the submission process?

If unsuccessful this time:

  • What feedback have I received?
  • What changes do I need to make

If successful:

  • What are my next steps to implementing my plan?
