Amy Dowden

Amy Dowden is a professional dancer, who was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease when she was 19 years old.

Amy works hard to raise awareness about Crohn's & Colitis UK and advocate for better care for people living with Crohn's or Colitis. From her documentary 'Crohn's and me' in 2020 to accepting being made an MBE for her services to Crohn’s disease on behalf of those who live with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Amy has a  history of incredible support and dedication for supporting people with Crohn's or Colitis.

Amy speaks about a range of issues that she's passionate about, including body image, and uses opportunities such as being guest on ITV's Lorraine to talk about life with Crohn's.

It was such a relief to finally receive a diagnosis. I just have to look out for the signs, which for me start with swollen eyes. Then I call my doctor. I have learnt to listen to my body, and to notice when things start getting out of tune. I know when I need to rest, and when I have to eat simply and drink lots of water. I have always been driven to win, so Crohn's was never going to hold me back.
