Calling all experienced motorcyclists to join us on World IBD day, Sunday 19th May 2024 for a collective ride out. 

Ride from Reading to Salisbury, and beyond to Basingstoke! 

Join us for a fun motorcycle charity run starting from the Jekyll & Hyde just south of Reading. Fuel yourself with a complimentary breakfast bap and hot drink, before setting off to Salisbury (Guild Hall Square) for a lunch pitstop with goodies and spot prizes to be won! Then enjoy the final stretch to the Basingstoke Festival of Transport finish line.

This event is raising money in aid of the Berkshire Local Network. All money received by Crohn's & Colitis UK through this page will be passed onto the local volunteers to support their activities of raising awareness, hosting local education and social events and funding local grants. Should it not be possible to spend the entirety of these funds at a local level, the volunteers will redistribute them to Crohn's & Colitis UK.

When to get there

Please arrive by 10am, in the Jekyll & Hyde Car park on the A33 (RG27 0AX). Richard - Berkshire Lead Network Volunteer or one of our C&C volunteers will greet you and sign you in. Breakfast rolls, tea and coffee will be provided. Toilets are available in the pub.

There is a BP station just 200M further south for fuel and it also has a large convenience store and air supply. We intend to send the first group off by 10.30 following a briefing.

What is the route of the ride?

The Ride out is in two parts.

  • First, being from the Jekyll and Hyde Pub on the A33 between Reading and Basingstoke to the Guildhall Square in Salisbury. (Route - We head south until just above Basingstoke when we head west out towards Overton. Then through Whitchurch and onto Cholderton before heading south to Salisbury).
  • The Second part, after a lunch stop in Salisbury will be from Salisbury to Basingstoke’s “Festival Of Transport” located at the War Memorial Park in the centre of Basingstoke. (Route - Our return journey starts by heading east - Romsey direction, just south of Winchester and then up to New Alresford before entering Basingstoke from the south)
  • The events official finish line and end will be when we reach Basingstoke Festival of Transport 2024*, (White Hart Lane, Basingstoke RG21 4AF) or the A339 Basingstoke, if you do not wish to attend the festival.
  • A full detailed route will be provided in advance of the day, including details of fuel stops and toilets facilities. 

How do I register?

*Advanced registration is essential. Registration for ‘Bikers for Bowels’ must be completed online here * Please note that due to limited capacity and safety considerations, only registered participants will be able to take part in the event. Anyone that attends on the day without registering online, will sadly not be able to take part.

Can I make any additional donations?

Yes, additional donations are welcomed. This event is raising money in aid of the Berkshire Local Network and support your of this event will have such a huge impact on people living with and affected by, Crohn’s and Colitis. This could really help locally, through activities of raising awareness, hosting local education and social events and funding local grants, contributing towards improved patient care to benefit people living with Crohn’s and Colitis. Should it not be possible to spend the entirety of these funds at a local level, the volunteers will redistribute them to Crohn's & Colitis UK.

During the day there will be collection buckets and our card swipe device, available for additional donations. There will also be donated gifts / vouchers available in exchange of donations.

Is the charity motorcycle ride suitable for all skill levels?

You must be an experienced rider and have been riding a motorcycle for at least one year, to take part in this event.

What should I bring with me on the day?

Participants should bring their motorcycle in good working condition and start the event with a full tank of petrol. Your bike must be insured with a valid MOT and you must possess a valid UK driving licence suitable for the vehicle you are riding. You should also have suitable safety gear which will include a protective jacket, motorcycle helmet, gloves and suitable riding boots. Please also bring your ‘Proof of Registration’ - e.g your email confirmation (printed or via display on mobile device).

Event Terms & Conditions

When registering for your ticket you will be required to accept the event Terms & Conditions. It is your responsibility to read the Terms and Conditions in full.

Are passengers allowed?

Yes, passengers or pillions are allowed and encouraged. They will need to sign up for the event and pay for a £20.00 ticket and accept the event Terms and Conditions. This is to ensure we meet our insurers requirements.

Toilets facilities

Given that we might have riders with Crohn’s or Colitis we have ensured that toilet facilities have been identified on the route. There are toilets at the start, in the square in Salisbury and at the Transport Festival. Possible fuel stops have been marked. Please start with a full fuel tank.

T-shirts - Optional

You can purchase a t-shirt when registering, this will be posted to you ahead of event day. Our charity colour is purple with riders encouraged to display purple on the day. Any flags or the like must be secure and safe.

What refreshments are there?

We start with breakfast rolls and tea or coffee available at the Jekyll & Hyde (included in your registration donation). Veggie option will be egg rolls. Vegan option available with advance notice. We don’t anticipate stops along the way so next food is in the Guild Hall Square, Salisbury. They are lots of restaurants and a market while we stop for lunch. Our gazebo will be worth a visit with donated gifts & vouchers for sale. Participants should bring their own water bottles.

Activities

We intend to make the day a fun experience. There will various ‘spot’ prizes for participants. These are likely to include: Oldest bike;  Bike that’s come the farthest to participate (confirmed by driving licence address!);  Most spectacularly adorned bike; Most unusual bike/rider etc. Goodies will be available at our gazebo in the Salisbury square.

Above all we want a safe ride out so please ride carefully, legally and responsibly whilst enjoying the day and thank you for the great contribution you are making.
