Brilliant response to 'More IBD Nurses ' Better Care' Campaign

Published 15 July 2016

Nearly 1,200 people pledged their support to our campaign and also wrote to the Chief Executive of their local hospital.

The results so far have shown what an influential community we are when we work together to change the services for people living with Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and other forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

My CEO was contacted by one of my patients about the ‘More IBD Nurses – Better Care' campaign. I was moved to tears to know that all my hard work has not gone unnoticed. We have recently recruited a second IBD Nurse, which was very much needed as I was really struggling to cope with the workload on my own.

1,178 emails have been sent to the Chief Executives of 248 hospitals across the UK. The results and progress we've seen already has been excellent and this is all thanks to your support.

A few of the highlights include:

  • One Trust is set to employ another IBD Nurse
  • Three Chief Executives will review the business case for more IBD Nurses
  • Several hospitals have identified areas they can improve and plans to address them
  • Directors of Nursing from two Trusts contacted us, and are putting plans in place to discuss IBD nursing service development

Our CEO has received several letters from patients and as a result we are drawing up a business case for a further IBD Nurse and more admin support.  It’s working!
