Today’s the day! We’re delivering our letter to Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, asking him and the UK Government to cut the wait for everyone living with Crohn’s and Colitis. More than 34,000 of you signed our open letter, adding your voice and strengthening our calls to ensure people with Crohn’s and Colitis are not forgotten in Government plans to fix the NHS.

Alongside our letter, we’ve posted a supporting video on our socials to mark the occasion. The video features one of our dedicated IBD nurses, Michelle Gadsden, along with some of our amazing supporters Emma, Meg, and Ryan, who have all signed the letter and are backing our call to Cut the Wait.

We’re asking everyone to rally behind us and amplify our message by sharing our video on social media and tagging Wes Streeting to get his attention.

As part of the campaign, we spoke with Meg who also stars in the video. She spoke with us about her journey to diagnosis and her experience of struggling to get answers. She visited her GP multiple times but was repeatedly misdiagnosed. Experiences like Meg’s are at the heart of our campaign, Cut the Wait. Read more about Meg's story and why she's backing our campaign.

Keeping the conversation going

The hand-in comes in the same week as the UK Government launches a major national consultation on the future of the health service.

Last night our CEO, Marianne Radcliffe, attended an event at the Science Museum in London where Wes Streeting met with partners to share more about a major consultation on the NHS’s future.

We know that people with Crohn’s and Colitis are facing delays at every stage of the process, whether that’s waiting too long for appointments, test referrals, or to start treatment. At Crohn’s & Colitis UK, we’re working hard to make sure Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a big part of the national conversation around fixing the NHS. Listening to the needs of patients is vital. It’s time for things to change, and that change cannot come soon enough for people with Crohn’s and Colitis.

Marianne Radcliffe, CEO

We’ll continue to push to be part of these conversations and ensure the voices of people with Crohn’s and Colitis are heard at the highest level. If you want to hear more from us about how to get involved in our campaigns, sign up to our campaigns mailing list today.
