On Friday 11 March, the Government announced its response to a consultation on aids and appliances which will reduce the points allocated to the Aids and Appliances descriptor from 2 points to 1 for the these activities - ‘managing toilet needs or incontinence’ and ‘dressing and undressing’.
Reducing the points allocated to these two activities will mean that those living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease may be less likely to qualify for PIP. This change will apply to new claims, claimants who report a change of circumstances and DLA claimants who are reassessed for PIP from 1 January 2017. The change will also affect existing PIP claimants who do not report a change of circumstances from the later of 1 January 2017 or the date the Department reviews their current award.
