AWARE-IBD

Crohn’s & Colitis UK are working on the AWARE-IBD project with local partners in Sheffield, as one of only four projects to be funded under a new Health Foundation programme called Common Ambition.

Aware-IBD partners

What is the AWARE-IBD project?

We will bring together people with Crohn's and Colitis, healthcare professionals and decision makers to create and guide improvements to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) service in Sheffield. Excitingly, for the first time a person living with Crohn’s or Colitis will be trained to lead these changes. We will measure people's experiences of care and their symptoms. This information will be used to understand the overall impact of the changes and shared with healthcare professionals to focus appointments on what is important to that individual. Workshops will help to ensure that people across all communities feel confident to share their experiences.

Describing Aware-IBD

What is AWARE-IBD hoping to achieve?

Our ultimate goal is to empower people with Crohn's and Colitis and improve their care based on what matters to them. Together, we want to drive improvements in outcomes and experiences of care. We want people from all backgrounds, their families and carers to be involved, contributing knowledge, skills, and diverse perspectives. We will share our findings with the public to enable conversations and drive better care across the UK.

What’s next?

While the project is being delivered in Sheffield, the learning from the initiative will lead to better outcomes for people who live with Crohn’s and Colitis across the UK.

Questionnaires have started being distributed to Sheffield residents. If you receive your Crohn’s or Colitis care from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, look out for a letter in October inviting you to participate in the AWARE-IBD study. If you live in Sheffield, you can help us by responding to your letter or by asking your IBD team how you can get involved.

To help us understand what is important to you with your Crohn’s or Colitis care, whether you live in Sheffield or elsewhere in the UK, please complete the questions below. Your responses will help us in the AWARE-IBD project as we identify areas for change in the Sheffield IBD service but will also support Crohn’s & Colitis UK’s wider work on improving healthcare.
