Writing for wellbeing

Crohn’s & Colitis UK members can access a free place on new membership platform WriteWell, which brings together budding writers and promotes writing for wellbeing

A new online writing community designed to improve mental health and wellbeing launched on 22 February.

WriteWell offers people the opportunity to explore writing as a self-care tool, and we are pleased they are supporting us by offering free three-month places to Crohn’s & Colitis UK members. This will give you access to a range of online resources, varying from 10-minute warm-ups to four-week courses. No writing experience is required; the focus of each programme is on improving participants’ wellbeing.

The online platform offers a variety of learning opportunities. There are courses designed to help you build resilience, navigate change and create calm, as well as live workshops with writing and wellbeing experts. There are also fun creative warm-ups and a monthly book group.

A growing body of research shows that writing and creativity can have a positive effect on mental health and help to build resilience. WriteWell is designed to work for people from all education levels and backgrounds and, as well as supporting mental health, offers the opportunity to develop writing and creative skills. You must be over 18 to join.

You don’t need to give payment details when you sign up to your free three-month place. If you would like to subscribe after your initial three-month period, subscription costs £9 per month.

Paula Winzar at WriteWell says: “The hope is that people will benefit from the mental health resources, the release that creative writing brings, and the structure and sense of community that online courses can offer for people having to shield in the pandemic.”

Crohn’s & Colitis UK members can reserve their free three-month place by clicking here.
