Getting scrappy for charity

Crohn’s & Colitis UK chosen as partner charity for leading UK social enterprise

Award-winning not-for-profit Giveacar has selected Crohn’s & Colitis UK as its partner charity for April, May and June this year.

The social enterprise helps UK-based charities to raise funds by offering a car scrapping service, or by auctioning cars and then donating the money raised to charity.

Giveacar has helped to handle the auction and disposal of more than 35,000 vehicles and has so far raised more than £3.5m for different causes, keeping charity at the heart of what it does.

Founded by its director, Tom Chance, who realised how much money people were losing through rushing to get rid of their old cars, Giveacar now has 1,600 charities registered with it. He spotted the potential to give owners an ethical, hassle-free way of scrapping their unwanted vehicles while also donating money to worthwhile causes, and went on to create Giveacar, the UK’s first charity car donation service.

Speaking on its partnership with Crohn’s & Colitis UK, Giveacar said: “We’re excited to be working with Crohn’s & Colitis UK throughout April, May and June, turning as many old cars, motorbikes, vans, and even caravans, as possible into donations for them!”

Giveacar hopes to raise the value of 30 vehicle donations over the course of the three-month partnership with Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

Natasha Cockram, Corporate Partnership Officer at Crohn’s & Colitis UK, said: “We are so pleased to be Giveacar’s focus charity! We are excited to be working with them to get some more much-needed donations for Crohn’s & Colitis UK over these coming months.”
