Medical Content Reviewers

Our Medical Content Reviewers are volunteer healthcare professionals who help us to ensure our information is accurate, up to date and trustworthy. This is an essential role in our information production process.

We have an extensive portfolio of information resources. Our aim is that everyone affected by Crohn’s or Colitis has access to the right information at the right time and in the right format. We want people with Crohn’s and Colitis to feel supported and able to make informed choices about their care. And you can help us achieve this.

What do Medical Content Reviewers do?

We ask you to review our patient information resources. We estimate each information resource review to take 2 hours of your time.

When reviewing a resource, we ask you to consider:

  • Is the content appropriate and relevant to the topic area?
  • Is the information consistent with up-to-date evidence and research?
  • Have appropriate sources of evidence been used and are these clearly indicated in references?
  • Is personal opinion clearly distinguished from evidence-based information?
  • Are risks and benefits clearly and impartially presented?
  • Where relevant, are alternative options clearly identified?

Role responsibilities

Medical Content Reviewers agree to:

  • Provide a medical review on draft information resources. This includes checking the accuracy of the content, that suitable references have been used and suggesting any important and relevant omissions.

  • Respond to e-mail queries relating to draft information resources as soon as possible. We usually ask for the review and sign-off of information resources within 2 weeks of receipt (but this timeframe is flexible, on request).

  • Declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest by completing a Conflict of Interest Declaration form on a yearly basis.

  • Maintain professional registration with an appropriate regulatory body. You must notify us immediately if your registration lapses.

  • When required, suggest additional professional contacts with expertise or knowledge on specific topics who may be able to review and comment on draft information resources.

Following each medical review, we will send you a certificate of participation for your CPD portfolio.
