Sponsored Litter Pick

Hold a sponsored litter pick around your local community.

You’ll get to spend time in the great outdoors, leave the world a cleaner place and raise money for Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

How do I get prepared for my litter pick?

  • Get permission – Firstly you need to make sure to tell the local government about your planned litter clean-up, identify with them how the litter will be sorted and disposed. Then agree on a final location to drop off the bags litter. (They might even agree to provide equipment such as litter sacks).
  • Choose a location such as a local green area, a riverbank or park
  • Plan your date, time and route

Keeping safe

  • Make sure you wear appropriate clothing including strong sturdy gloves
  • Make sure you have a first aid kit on you
  • Do not touch any litter with your bare hands
  • You must avoid any dangerous litter, such as asbestos, dead animals, corrosive materials (eg car batteries) and needles, broken glass. Speak to the local authority if you come across any of the items listed or anything else you are concerned about.

How to fundraise?

  • Tell friends, family and colleagues about your litter pick and ask them to sponsor you. Setting up a JustGiving page is a quick and easy way to collect donations
  • Why not set a target for the amount of bags you will collect and ask for a suggested donation for each bag
  • Or set up a sweepstake and get people to guess how many bags of rubbish you’ll collect.

Spread the word

  • Publicise the event with friends, family, colleagues and your community.
  • Share your Just Giving page on your social media
  • Why not involve your local newspaper or radio station?  Use our handy, How to pitch your story to the media guide here

Thank you!

Remember to send everyone that attended a big thank you letting them know the amount raised for Crohn’s & Colitis UK!
