Someone I teach

If you teach or guide someone living with Crohn's or Colitis, you might want to learn more about how you can support them with their condition. Check out our information below to learn about the conditions and how you can help any young people you work with.

Our guide to supporting young people with Crohn's and Colitis through their education

Created by Crohn's & Colitis UK-funded researchers and young people, our guide helps educators and other staff best support students and young people with Crohn's and Colitis.

“”

Leaving home, I was full of anxiety, but I told myself: 'The only way you are going to find out if you can do it is by trying'

For younger children

We have an animated story which shows a child explaining their condition. This can be helpful for children living with the condition, as well as for other young people who know someone with the condition (perhaps a classmate).

Our Talking Toolkit

If your student is going away for uni and wants to explain their condition, or perhaps they're struggling to find the words to tell you what they need, our Talking Toolkit can help them communicate how you can help them.

How Can We Help?

  • We can help you understand Crohn’s and Colitis
  • Listen and talk about living with IBD
  • Help you connect with others in the Crohn’s and Colitis community
  • Give you contact details of specialist organisations
  • We can support you to live well with Crohn’s or Colitis and provide up-to-date, evidence-based information

Please be aware we’re not medically or legally trained. We cannot provide detailed financial or benefits advice or specialist emotional support.

If you need specific medical advice about your condition, your GP or IBD team will be best placed to help.
