Could you be a Helpline volunteer?

05 March 2018

Would you like to support people affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) - and have some regular spare time which you could use to help others affected by IBD?

We are currently recruiting volunteers for our helplines, which provide support for anyone who needs a safe place to talk about living with Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis

Crohn’s and Colitis UK have three phone lines staffed by volunteers:

  • Crohn's and Colitis Support is a confidential listening service for anyone who needs a safe place to talk about living with IBD.
  • Parent to Parent enables parents of children with IBD, up to and including 25 year olds, to talk on the phone in confidence to one of our parent volunteers. All of whom are a parent of a child with IBD.
  • Disability Benefit Service offers people support with completing applications for Disability Benefits, you do not need to have lived experience of IBD to volunteer on this service. But knowledge of the benefit system is a must.

The caller said she felt so much better after the call – I was the first person she had ever spoken to about her Crohn’s Disease apart from her family.

Crohn's and Colitis Support

You must be reliable and flexible – you will need to provide us with your availability on a monthly basis, to carry out your duty on the rota but also be able to help out at short notice on occasion.

Volunteers work from their own home (minimum of 3 hours per month) and need access to a telephone and computer as well as having a confidential space to work in.

You will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support to enable you to carry out this rewarding volunteer role.
