Our work with GPs wins top prize

Published 03 November 2019

Crohn’s & Colitis UK’s and the Royal College of General Practitioners’ (RCGP) poster has won ‘best of’ in the clinical category at the RCGP Annual Conference.

Highlighting our work on the Flare Pathways, as part of the RCGP IBD Spotlight Project, the poster came out on top, in competition with 26 others!

Dr Kevin Barrett, IBD Spotlight Project Clinical Lead, who was instrumental in developing the pathways and the poster, presented in the Winning Posters session at the conference.

The judges appreciated the clarity of the message, the involvement of patients in the project, and the potential impact that this work has to improve the lives of patients with IBD.

Judges said they liked the design and the clear message. They noted it wasn't too busy, and they took learning away from it, with the impact of the poster swaying them.

Crohn's & Colitis UK has been working with the RCGP on the IBD Spotlight project since 2017. This collaboration resulted firstly in the RCGP Toolkit, which provides a user-friendly ‘one-stop shop’ for GPs including support with diagnosis, key facts and advice on medication.

In June 2019, the Crohn’s and Colitis Flare Pathway were launched providing guidance for primary care professionals to support their patients when they are experiencing a flare. The winning poster showcased the work on these – why they were needed and how we delivered them.

It’s fantastic to see the important work produced as part of the IBD Spotlight Project winning at the RCGP Conference. The group has worked hard on resources to support and inform GPs, which will ultimately improve care for people living with Crohn’s and Colitis.

We announced the Flare Pathway as part of IBD Spotlight Project this June 2019.

The RCGP and Crohn's & Colitis UK IBD Spotlight Project would not be possible without the support of the Peter Sowerby Foundation.
