Hosted by GP and Regional IBD Champion for the Spotlight Project, Dr Charlie Andrews, ‘The IBD series for Primary Care’ podcast aims to raise awareness and increase understanding in key areas of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis management for primary care doctors.
Following ‘a conversation with’ format, the series opens with Charlie speaking to Aileen Fraser, Lead IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist at Bristol Royal Infirmary. Aileen discusses her role, the sorts of questions she receives from GPs, how she can help support people living with Crohn’s or Colitis and clinicians in the community, and gives practical advice for primary care professionals.
To support both GPs and patients, Crohn’s & Colitis UK have partnered with the Royal College of General Practitioners to create the IBD Spotlight Project to improve the detection and aid early diagnosis of Crohn’s and Colitis. The IBD Spotlight Project helps primary care doctors to refer, manage and support people with the conditions.
As well as the new podcast series, the IBD Toolkit is a ‘one-stop shop’ for GPs and other primary care professionals, including key facts about IBD, information on managing flares and supporting people living with Crohn’s or Colitis to stay well.
The Regional IBD Champions, including Dr Charlie Andrews, deliver talks, network with both primary and secondary care colleagues to help speed up referral and diagnosis and improve the support that primary care health professionals can give to their Crohn’s and Colitis patients.
