We’re delighted to share the fantastic news that Lisa Younge has won the British Journal of Nursing national award for Gastrointestinal/IBD Nurse of the Year!
Formerly at the Royal London Hospital, Lisa has recently been appointed as Consultant Nurse for Inflammatory Bowel Disease at St Mark’s Hospital. She won for setting up not one but two IBD services and has multiple publications to her name, shaping IBD nursing not only here in the UK but across Europe too.
At Crohn’s & Colitis UK, Lisa has been instrumental in running the IBD Nursing Programme, together with Isobel Mason. The Nursing Programme has focused on increasing the number of IBD nurses across the UK and offering support and training to nurses, including advice lines and service improvement. An exciting recent development has been the introduction of the first Crohn’s & Colitis UK Nurse Specialists. In accepting her award, Lisa said:
“I’d like to say a massive thank you. I feel quite overwhelmed in winning this award, so a huge thank you to anyone who nominated me. It’s a fantastic honour to be nominated for an award like this, and, as with my fellow finalists in this category, an opportunity to showcase how important the nursing role is within gastroenterology and IBD care.
But a bigger thank you goes to the IBD community in general – the healthcare professionals, the charitable agencies who work together, support each other, educate each other.
And most importantly, thank you to the people who live with these conditions, who inspire me every day.”
