People all over the UK volunteer their time, skills and experiences in a variety of roles throughout Crohn’s & Colitis UK. Here’s what the winners of our Volunteer Awards 2019 told us about why.
Learning more about the conditions
The information now is so much better than what we had previously, and I want everyone to be made aware of what is available. I now have a better understanding of people dealing with all aspects of Crohn’s and Colitis.
Being part of a community
I have always volunteered in some capacity, since I was young. After being diagnosed with Colitis, I chose to start giving my time to Crohn’s & Colitis UK. The team are welcoming, listen to my ideas and make me feel my contribution counts. I really feel like part of the team.
It helped knowing that I was not alone, so I wanted to give back and help other people who are going through the same thing that I did. Helping someone better understand their condition is a great feeling.
I wanted to develop and improve specific skills and I’m hoping to work on my interpersonal and IT skills which will lead to a career change in this area.
