Ruth Wakeman

Director of Information and Support Services

The Information and Support Services teams provide information and support for anyone affected by Crohn’s and Colitis.  We provide helpline services via phone, email or LiveChat as well as a wide range of evidence-based information resources, local education programmes and guidance and support for our volunteers and local networks.

Ruth has been working in healthcare for over thirty years and has a background in pharmacy, which is where her journey working in patient care began. Most recently, Ruth has worked for the Nursing and Midwifery Council – a regulator for nurses and midwives in the UK and, prior to this, for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, a membership organisation for pharmacists. In both roles she led teams delivering education, standards and support for healthcare professionals.

Ruth is passionate about support services; she believes all people affected by Crohn’s and Colitis need access to good quality information. For the recently diagnosed there can be so much misleading information and often people find the 'worst case scenario' information. It's important everyone affected by Crohn’s and Colitis can find up-to-date information that they can rely on. Our services provide a way for people to find information and support to help them manage their conditions as well as someone to talk to, giving them hope and reducing feelings of isolation.
