Tom was elected to the Board of Trustees at our AGM in 2016 and elected as Vice Chairman in June 2019.
I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2004, shortly after I was married. I suffered very acutely, and after a few months of illness had a total colectomy, following which I have been fortunate enough to enjoy good health. I joined during that time and found the information and support provided by Crohn’s and Colitis UK to be invaluable, and I've remained a member since then.
I put myself forward for the position of Honorary Treasurer as this aligns strongly with my professional career. I am a Chartered Accountant by training, although for the past 12 years I have worked for The Royal Bank of Scotland in a variety of roles. My current position is within their Structured Finance division, leading a team who provide lending to medium sized businesses across the UK for important events such as acquisitions of other businesses. I've also previously worked within the Shareholder Executive, part of the Department for Business within the Civil Service, whilst on a 12 month secondment from the bank.
As a result, I have a broad mix of financial skills, based on my accountancy, banking and corporate finance experience. I also have considerable experience of strategy setting, governance and leadership from both the positions I've held in the bank and from my interactions with my clients, which include a wide range of businesses from SMEs to publicly listed companies to not-for-profit organisations.
Outside of work, my interests revolve around my family and sport of all kinds.
