Jon and Diana McLeish founded United for Colitis, a fundraising initiative which raised £117,617 following two high profile events, a gala dinner with Darren Fletcher and Lewis Moody at Old Trafford, Manchester and an evening with Paralympic and Olympic stars in London to celebrate World IBD Day.
As well as supporting the national work of Crohn's and Colitis UK, funds raised by United for Colitis have have been awarded to local Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) projects at Manchester Children’s Hospital and Alder Hey Hospital. Jon and Diana continue to support people affected by IBD via United for Colitis' social media channels.
It's an honour for us to become a Community Champion because there are so so many incredible people affected by IBD that are also deserving. We are lucky to be recognised for our efforts and we accept it on behalf of those who are doing everything they can to raise awareness. They are all Champions to us!
We hope to continue raising awareness and fundraising for years to come. It's especially more important now that Jon's brother Jamie has been impacted with IBD resulting in surgery. We also have two sons and who knows what the future holds for them. We want more research and medication to become available for people with IBD and for there to be more specially trained nurses in every hospital. We hope that through our efforts, we can help to ease the lives of those with IBD and raise much needed awareness of these illnesses.
