Methotrexate is a drug used to treat Crohn’s Disease and occasionally Ulcerative Colitis – the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). You may be given methotrexate if you keep getting flare-ups even though you are taking other medicines for your IBD. Methotrexate may also be able to help you cut down or come off steroids. For some people, methotrexate is a good alternative to azathioprine and mercaptopurine.
